Sabres swept by Saints at Blue Line

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The series finale between Marian women's hockey (8-10-1, 5-7-0 NCHA) and St. Scholastica proved to be another defensive battle that the Sabres would drop by a 2-1 final.

In a game that was evenly matched throughout, senior Sarah Bier opened the scoring at the 16:44 mark with an unassisted goal, her fifth of the season.

The Saints would respond in the second period with a power-play goal nearly at the same time to even the scoring at 1-1.  CSS then took the lead for the first time in the game at the 8:35 mark of the third period with an even-strength goal.  The Sabres battled the remainder of the third period finishing with an advantage on shots but couldn't find the back of the net to set the final at 2-1.

CSS and Marian each finished with 27 shots on goal with sophomore goalie Lindsey Strainis (6-8-1) making 25 saves in the loss.

Marian is next on the road for a weekend series against Concordia Wisconsin opening Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. from Ozaukee Ice Arena.
