Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Marian University women's hockey (5-7-1, 3-5-0 NCHA) opened the second half of the season with a convincing 3-0 win over Hamline in non-conference action.
After a back-and-forth start to the game, freshman Ally Fox opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season at the 13:13 mark of the period. Sophomore Hailey Miller and senior Emily Everson each earned assists on what proved to be the only goal of the first period.
The second period saw the Sabres extend on their lead with a pair of goals. The same trio from the first goal would be involved on the first goal of the second period when Everson lit the lamp for the sixth time this season at the 3:20 mark with assists to Miller and Fox.
Fox then netted her second goal of the game, third point of the game, on the power play with assists from a pair of defensemen in sophomore Nicole Niemi and senior Sarah Bier.
MU would pack it in their zone for the third period being outshot 11-6 in the period but the defense stood tall to complete the 3-0 victory.
The Sabres were outshot 37-26 for the game but sophomore goalie Lindsey Strainis was up to the task stopping all 37 Piper shots for her second shutout of the season.
Marian remains in St. Cloud, Minn. to take on the College of Saint Benedict tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 7, for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
