Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Marian University women's hockey (6-7-1, 3-5-0 NCHA) scored four unanswered goals to defeat the College of Saint Benedict 5-2 on the road.
The Sabres didn't need long to get on the scoreboard as sophomore Hailey Miller found the back of the net 19-seconds into the game for her sixth goal of the season. Freshman Ally Fox and senior Emily Everson assisted the goal, which proved to be the only goal of the period.
The Blazers held an early 8-7 shot advantage and were able to light the lamp at the 2:48 mark to knot the game at 1-1. The physical and defensive battle continued until the Sabres were able to net a pair of goals at the end of the period.
Senior Sarah Bier was able to beat the goalie for her fourth goal of the season with just under five minutes remaining in the period, assist to sophomore Alexis Peterson, and junior Paige Johnson lit the lamp just 1:32 later to put MU up 3-1. The goal was Johnson's second of the season and she was assisted by freshman Hannah Koniar and Bier.
The Sabres continued to build their lead to open the third period with Fox lighting the lamp at the 3:46 mark for her team-high eighth goal of the year with assists to Everson and Miller. Senior Rian Lennon then closed out the Marian scoring with an unassisted goal with just over seven minutes left in the game for her third goal of the year.
The Blazers would add a goal 1:50 following the Lennon goal but wouldn't manage to sneak anymore in to put the final at 5-2.
Saint Benedict finished with a slight 26-25 shot advantage, while each team would be unable to convert one power play opportunity.
Sophomore Lindsey Strainis (5-5-1) earned the win between the pipes stopping 24 CSB shots.
Marian returns to Blue Line with a home series against Finlandia Jan. 14-15.
