LISLE, Ill. - Marian University men's soccer (10-9-0, 5-5-0 NACC) held the lead late but Benedictine rallied to defeat the Sabres 3-1.

The game was physical with three red cards, one to junior Ian Chacon, and a total of 36 fouls in the cold weather.  Neither team would find the back of the net in the first half with the Eagles outshooting MU 8-3.

The physical played into the second half as Chacon would receive his red card in the 65th minute after a skirmish on the pitch.  Chacon would be forced to leave the game after stopping all eight shots he faced.

Shortly after, Marian would use the card as a rallying moment as junior Eric Rodriguez would find the back of the net for his fourth goal of the year to put MU ahead 1-0.  Muhammed Abshir would send a cross into the box that was headed out to Rodriguez who sent a strike from outside the box to beat the BenU keeper.

Nearly two minutes later senior Alonso Fragoso would earn a penalty kick after a foul in the box, but the Eagle keeper would turn the nation's leading scorer away shifting the momentum to Benedictine.

The Eagles would start their rally in the 81st minute and would score three goals in a span of 2:55 to take a 3-1 lead with under seven minutes to play.  The Sabres would attempt to rally but the Benedictine defense would turn the Sabres away as the final horn sounded.

Marian finishes the 2017 season with the seventh most wins for a season in program history, the second most goals in a single season, and the fourth highest points total.
