Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (2-6-0, 2-4-0 NCHA) used a four-goal third period to defeat Trine 4-1 and earn a conference sweep.
Junior Jill Schneider would lead the Sabres with a three-point game stemming from two goals and an assist. Schneider assisted the first goal of the game that came off the stick from freshman Calle Bye at the 6:20 mark, her third goal of the year. Schneider then connected on the power play just 1:23 later with an assist to fellow junior Nicole Niemi.
Sophomore Ally Fox continued the scoring barrage at the 11:19 mark with her first goal of the year, assists to sophomore Morgan Bolin and junior Hailey Miller. The Thunder would cut into the Sabre lead with a power play goal with only 1:27 remaining, but Schneider was able to put the game away with a short-handed empty net goal with only 15-seconds left in regulation.
Junior Lindsey Strainis (2-6-0) had another momentous game becoming the winningest goalie in Sabre women's hockey history with her 18 save performance. The lone goal she would allow came while Trine was on a power play.
Marian had a dominant opening period out shooting the Thunder 11-4. The Sabres would close out the game with a 32-19 advantage in shots led by junior Alexis Peterson who sent a game-high six shots on frame. MU had another strong game in the faceoff circle going 28-12 led by Miller who had 12 wins, while senior Paige Johnson added seven faceoff victories.
Marian hits the road for UW-Stevens Point Tuesday, Nov. 21 for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
