Marian women's hockey skates away from Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. - Marian University women's hockey (3-7-0, 3-4-0 NCHA) scored three goals in the third period to pull away from Finlandia and defeat the Lions 6-3.

Junior Hailey Miller opened the scoring for the third period just 56 seconds in when she lit the lamp on the power play, assists to sophomore Morgan Bolin and freshman Calle Bye.  Fellow junior Abbey Dokken gave the Sabres a two-goal lead for the second time in the game when she lit the lamp for her second time at the 10:32 mark, assists to junior Alexis Peterson and senior Ellie Deans.

Peterson would ice the game with an empty net goal, her first goal of the year, coming with just 47 seconds remaining.  Freshman Maegan Shuck and junior Jill Schneider assisted the goal that closed out four unanswered goals from Marian.

Dokken opened the scoring just 1:01 into the game, assist to Peterson, before Bolin gave Marian a multi-goal lead 3:27 later on the power play, assists to Miller and freshman Megan Cook.  The Lions would knot the game with a pair of goals separated by 1:00 in the first period and would take their only lead of the game at the 7:43 mark of the second on the power play.

Schneider would knot the game up in the final minutes of the second period for her fifth goal of the year with assists to Bye and senior Paige Johnson.

Marian would dominate the second and third period out shooting the Lions a combined 30-8 for the two periods as MU went on to hold a 39-17 shots advantage for the game.  Peterson and Dokken each had five shots on goal to pace the offense.

Junior Lindsey Strainis (3-7-0) made 14 saves in goal for the Sabres as she earned the victory.

Marian closes out their series at Finlandia tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 3, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. (CST).
