Box Score MADISON, Wis. - Junior Rachel Serchen recorded her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds as Marian University women's basketball (2-6, 0-4 NACC) fell to Edgewood 56-50 in a NACC match up.
After Edgewood opened the game with a 9-2 lead, Marian would go on a 10-3 run to tie the game in the final minutes of the first quarter. The Sabres used their momentum to take their first lead of the game off of a layup from junior Sarah Schultz at 14-13 to close out the quarter.
The Sabres relinquished the lead twice in the second quarter but managed to outscore the Eagles 15-13 and take a 29-26 advantage into halftime.
Edgewood came out of halftime on fire shooting 9-17 (.529) from the field in the third quarter including 2-5 (.400) from beyond the arc. The Eagles would outscore the Sabres 21-10 for the quarter to take a 47-39 lead into the final quarter.
Marian rallied in the final quarter to outscore the Eagles 11-9 and managed to cut down their deficit down to four after a three-pointer from senior Brandi Bender but the big third quarter from Edgewood proved to be too much to overcome.
The charity stripe was unkind to the Sabres as Marian went 6-19 (.316), while the Eagles shot 11-19 (.579) from the free throw line. Marian did hold a slim advantage in the paint outscoring Edgewood 26-22.
Bender added 15 points in the defeat with six rebounds and three assists. The starting five for the Sabres all recorded six or more rebounds.
Marian travels to UW-La Crosse next for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game Wednesday, December 13.
