Regents spoil Marian senior day

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's basketball (4-19, 3-15 NACC) hung tight with Rockford for the first half but a big third quarter propelled the Regents to a 75-61 win in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

The first quarter saw the Sabres and Regents go blow for blow for the entire 10 minutes with Rockford sinking a jumper at the buzzer to take an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Both teams continued to go back-and-forth to open the second quarter before Rockford used a 9-2 run to take the largest lead of the game up to that point at 36-29.  The Sabres bounced back but another Regent buzzer beater sent Rockford into the locker rooms with a 38-33 advantage.

The third quarter was all Regents as Rockford shot 8-13 (.615) from the field as they were able to outscore the Sabres 24-8 for the period.

The Sabres fought back in the fourth quarter, however, opening the final frame with a 17-4 run capped off by a jumper from senior Molly Kovarik.  The Sabres would run out of time to cut into the Rockford deficit any deeper, however, leading to the 75-61 final.

Senior guard Nicole Paulus finished with a game-high 23 points, while Kovarik chipped in 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Freshman Carley Wilson led the way on the boards with a team-high nine rebounds.

Marian hosts their final game of the season Wednesday, Feb. 15 taking on MSOE for a 7 p.m. tip.
