FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (9-12-1, 6-9-0) played tight with No. 5 Lake Forest but a pair of late Foresters goals lifted LFC past Marian 3-1.

The first period was evenly matched with a high tempo pace.  The Sabres would outshoot the Foresters 10-7 to open but were unable to take advantage of three power-play opportunities and headed into the first intermission scoreless.

The Foresters opened the scoring at the 13:22 mark of the second period as they went on to outshoot the Sabres 15-5 for the period.  MU would hold Lake Forest scoreless on a pair of man-advantages in the period as sophomore Lindsey Strainis made 14 saves.

The Sabre offense was able to regroup in the second intermission and needed only 1:37 to tie the game at 1-1.  Junior Paige Johnson brought the puck down low where senior Jessie Meluch was able to wrap around the cage and send a shot towards the net that freshman Ally Fox buried, her 12th goal of the year.

Marian was able to hold the Foresters off until the 15:20 mark when LFC took the lead for good.  The Foresters would add an empty net awarded goal in the final two minutes to seal the game with a 3-1 final.

Lake Forest finished with a 33-20 shot advantage with Strainis (7-10-1) taking the loss between the pipes for Marian making 30 saves on the night.

The Sabres close out the home portion of their schedule and their series with Lake Forest tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 12, with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
