Box Score GENEVA, Ill. - Marian University men's hockey (13-9-2, 11-7-1 NCHA) rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to tie Aurora 4-4.
Freshman Connor Martin opened the scoring for the game at 7:55 mark with assists to senior Brodie Jamieson and junior Curtis Lewington before a short-handed Aurora goal knotted the game at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, each side would find the back of the net with Aurora scoring on the power play and senior Scott Milnthorp lighting the lamp in the final minute of the period. Jamieson once again had an assist while sophomore Jake Howie also assisted the goal.
The Spartans jumped out with a pair of goals to open the third period and left the Sabres down two in the second half of the third period. Senior Derek Perl started the comeback with his fifth goal of the year, assists to junior Derek Thorogood and senior Hunter Stewart, with just over four minutes to play.
Then in the final minute and an extra attacker, Stewart was able to light the lamp with 26-seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, assist to Thorogood. Neither offense would find a rhythm in the final period leading to the 4-4 tie.
Marian finished the game outshooting the Spartans 50-16 but went 0-9 on the power play.
Senior Mike Baldwin (11-6-2) made 12 saves in the game.
Marian and Aurora close out the series from Blue Line tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 18, with a 4 p.m. puck drop. With a win, the Sabres would clinch home-ice for the opening round of the NCHA Harris Cup Tournament.
