Box Score DEPERE, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (10-13-1, 7-10-0 NCHA) clinched a berth into the NCHA Slaats Cup Tournament with a 2-1 win over St. Norbert.
In another defensive game that saw neither team find the back of the net in the first two periods, it was Marian who was able to net a pair in a third to defeat St. Norbert for only the second time in program history.
Sophomore Hailey Miller netted her ninth goal of the year to open the scoring at the 5:09 mark, assist to freshman Ally Fox. The Green Knights answered nearly nine minutes later with the equalizer to knot the game at 1.
Then 1:43 seconds later freshman Hannah Koniar would beat the goaltender for her third goal this season with an assist to senior Paige Picard. SNC would empty their net in the final minute while also on the power play, but were unable to sneak one past sophomore Lindsey Strainis to seal the Sabre win.
Marian was outshot 24-16 in the game but Strainis (8-10-1) was up to the task stopping 23 shots.
Marian and St. Norbert close out the series tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 18, with a 3 p.m. puck drop.
