Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's hockey (13-9-1, 11-7-0 NCHA) defeated Finlandia 7-1 to complete a weekend sweep of the Lions.
The Sabres jumped out early on the Lions as they outshot Finlandia 21-7 in the first period. Senior Scott Milnthorp opened the scoring with junior Hunter Stewart also lighting the lamp in the opening period to put the Sabres up 2-0.
Marian then only needed 32 seconds to score in the second period when senior Travis Meyer found the back of the net.
The Lions responded with a 5-on-3 goal at the 3:31 mark but just 30 seconds later senior Brodie Jamieson scored for the Sabres short-handed to put MU up 4-1. Milnthorp then found the back of the net for the second time in the game on the power play to close out the scoring for the second period.
Junior Braden Crone caused a turnover in the Finlandia defensive zone to open the scoring for the third period. Senior Jacob Ryd then lit the lamp on the power play to close out the scoring and set the final at 7-1.
Every MU student-athlete in the lineup sent at least one shot on net as the Sabres finished with a season-high 43 shots. The Sabre power play would go 2-2 in the win including the Jamieson short-handed goal.
Junior Mike Gudmandson (2-3-0) earned the win in goal for the Sabres with a 29-save performance.
Marian takes a weekend off before opening a home-and-home series at Aurora Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.
