Sabre women's basketball hangs tight with WLC in first half

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's basketball (2-12, 0-8 NACC) held Wisconsin Lutheran to 24 points in the opening half but fell to the Warriors by a 70-33 final.

The Sabre held the Warriors to only 3-19 (.158) in the opening quarter but the Marian offense couldn't find a rhythm shooting 3-16 (.188) as each team scored eight points in the first 10 minutes of action.  Each offense found a better rhythm in the second quarter with senior Brandi Bender scoring six points as Marian trailed heading into halftime 24-19.

The second half, however, was all Wisconsin Lutheran as the Warriors were able to pull away and continued their defensive dominance against the Sabres.

Bender closed out the game with a team-high 11 points, while juniors Rachel Serchen and Molly Magnus each had six points.  Junior Christina Jagiello grabbed five rebounds, two on the offensive end, and had two blocks.

Marian closes out a three-game homestand against Benedictine at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13.
