Sabre women's soccer falls to IIT

Box Score

CHICAGO - Marian University women's soccer (5-9-0, 2-5-0 NACC) couldn't overcome a slow start falling to Illinois Tech 5-1 on the road.

The Scarlet Hawks dominated the open half of the game scoring three times and outshooting Marian 24-0.  The Sabres had a much better second half recording 10 shots and holding IIT to 11.  Junior Allyson VanZeeland would prevent Marian from being shutout when she received a centering pass from senior Carley Schmit to close out the scoring for the game.  The goal was the first for VanZeeland and the assist was number two on the year for Schmit.

Freshman Amy Birner (2-3-0) took the loss in goal for the Sabres making 11 saves for the second time in the past three games.

Marian returns home to host Alverno at noon Saturday, Oct. 13 for Senior Day.
