Shooting woes costly for Sabre men's basketball at Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. - Marian University men's basketball (1-1, 0-0 NACC) had a tough night shooting from the field as the Sabres fell to Beloit by a 58-46 final.

Most of the opening half was a tight game with junior Logan Hamilton hitting a three-pointer with 8:33 left in the half to put the Sabres behind 20-18.  From there, the Buccaneers were able to extend on their lead scoring the next 13 points of the game to go ahead 33-18 with 2:16 left in the half. 

Beloit would close out the half shooting 16-29 (.552) from the field while holding the Sabres to 3-11 (.273) shooting from beyond the arc.

Marian managed to outscore the Buccaneers in the second half but were unable to rally from the big run that allowed Beloit to pull ahead.  The Sabre shooting woes continued in the second half as Marian was held to 8-35 (.229) shooting in the second half, but the Marian defense came up strong forcing 14 Beloit turnovers. 

The Sabre defense finished the game forcing 20 turnovers but would only manage to score eight points off of those turnovers.  Beloit held an edge in the paint outscoring Marian 38-12.

Junior Kelvin Jones led the way for Marian with a team-high 13 points and five rebounds.  Hamilton chipped in with 12 points to finish in double-figures for a second straight game.

Marian returns home Saturday, Nov. 24 for a 4:15 p.m. tip against Benedictine in their NACC opener.
