Power play goals lift Pointers past Sabre women's hockey

Box Score

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's hockey (0-7-2, 0-4-2 NCHA) opened the scoring but a pair of power play goals from UW-Stevens Point was the deciding factor in a 2-1 defeat.

Senior Natalie West was able to chip a shot past the blocker of the UWSP goaltender at the 8:35 mark of the opening period for her first goal of the year and open the scoring.  Sophomore Katie Meierotto and senior Jill Schneider each earned an assist on the play as the Sabres headed into the first intermission ahead.

UW-Stevens Point answered with a pair of chips in front of the net in the second period that found the back of the net.  The Sabres were able to create chances in front of the net with an empty net late in the third but were unable to score an equalizer leading to the 2-1 final.

In her first start of the season, sophomore Lindsay Lewison played well with 31 saves on 33 shots.  Lewison stopped all 12 shots she faced in the final period.  The Sabres finished with 16 shots led by Schneider who had three shots on goal.

Marian returns to NCHA action hosting Finlandia Friday, November 30 at 5 p.m. and Saturday, December 1 at 1 p.m. from Blue Line.
