Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. - For only the third time in program history, Marian University men's hockey (2-0-0, 2-0-0 NCHA) defeated Adrian by a 4-1 tally.
The Sabres were able to open the scoring after a scoreless first period with sophomore Anthony Orubor scoring his first career goal at the 3:44 mark of the second. Senior Nick Monfils and junior Shawn Brennan assisted the goal before junior Clay Cross scored his second goal of the year three minutes later. Cross would score without an assist for what eventually proved to be the game-winner.
Adrian managed to cut the lead in half at the 8:01 mark of the second period but senior Hunter Vorva (2-0-0) stood on his head the remainder of the game. The Sabres iced the game with a pair of empty-net power play goals in the final minute to set the final at 4-1. Monfils scored the first goal, while Cross scored his second of the game with an assist to sophomore Dylan Hutton.
Vorva stopped 46 shots in the victory and held the Bulldogs scoreless on six power play opportunities. The Sabres finished with 19 shots with seven Marian student-athletes recording multiple shots.
The Sabres close out the weekend with a pair of victories for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Marian next hosts Lake Forest Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in their home opener.
