Balanced effort not enough for Sabre men's basketball versus Dubuque

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Marian University men's basketball (2-8, 1-5 NACC) had 12 different scorers as the Sabres fell to Dubuque  78-59 in their Daytona Beach Shootout opener.

The Spartans were able to take a first-half lead on the Sabres opening the game with a 10-3 run and then a 10-4 run later in the half.  Despite the pair of runs, Marian kept Dubuque close including a 9-2 run to close out the half with a 39-34 tally.

Marian used their momentum from the end of the first half to score six of the first eight points of the second half to cut their deficit down to one.  The Spartans responded, however, going on a 15-4 run to take a 56-44 advantage, a lead they maintained the remainder of the game.

The top two scorers for the Sabres came off the bench as sophomore Tristan Van Ess went 6-10 from the field to finish with a team-high 13 points and junior Trentin Fouse went 2-3 from beyond the arc to finish with 10 points. 

Marian outshot the Spartans on the game going 24-57 (.421) from the field including 6-18 (.333) from beyond the arc.

Marian closes out the Daytona Beach Shootout tomorrow, Thursday, December 20 at 6 p.m. (CST) when the Sabres take on LaGrange.
