STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (3-7-2, 2-4-2 NCHA) defeated UW-Stevens Point for the first time in program history by a 2-1 final.

Both offenses were kept in check until midway through the second period when the Pointers were able to strike first.  Heading into the third period, the Marian offense was held to only nine shots but bounced back in the final period sending 11 shots on goal. 

Junior Morgan Bolin would open the scoring for the Sabres at the 4:58 mark of the final period with assists to seniors Abbey Dokken and Hailey Miller.  The goal was her third in the past three games and set up a game-winner for sophomore Katie Meierotto.  Meierotto would light the lamp at the 11:23 mark of the period for her first-career goal with assists to senior Natalie West and junior Hannah Koniar.

From there, the Marian defense was able to hold off the Pointers to secure the non-conference victory.

Senior Lindsey Strainis had another big performance in goal for the Sabres finishing with 32 saves.  Strainis would stop all 10 shots she faced in the first period and all nine shots she faced in the final period.  She also anchored a penalty kill unit that fought off three Pointer power plays.

Bolin had five of the 20 Marian shots to lead the offense, while West and freshman Sally Moris each had multiple shots.  In total, Marian had 14 skaters record a shot on goal.

Marian returns home to close out the first half against Augsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 8 in non-conference action.
