FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (6-16-0, 5-10-0 NCHA) scored four goals as they opened a crucial series against Northland with a 4-1 win.

The Sabres jumped out to a 3-0 lead to open the game with one of their goals coming on the power play.  Junior Hailey Miller netted that power play goal at the 7:54 mark of the first period, assists to sophomore Morgan Bolin and freshman Megan Cook, for her fifth goal of the year.  Junior Alexis Peterson then made the most of a breakaway at the 8:42 mark of the second period as she netted just her second goal of the year.

Junior Sheila Blower closed out the fast start at the 9:44 mark of the third period with her second goal of the season, assist to fellow junior Natalie West.  The LumberJills were able to convert a 4-on-3 power play to cut into the Marian lead but sophomore Ally Fox was able to ice the game with her third goal of the year.  Freshman Maegan Shuck assisted the goal that came at the 15:46 mark of the third period.

Junior Lindsey Strainis (5-15-0) had another strong game in net making 29 saves including all 17 shots she saw in the second period.

Marian outshot the LumberJills by a 34-30 margin including a 15-8 advantage in the opening period.  Senior Paige Johnson, Peterson, Fox and Miller each had four shots on frame.  Miller also had a strong game in the face-off circle where she went 11-2.

Marian closes out the series with Northland tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 11, with the puck dropping at noon.
