Marian men's hockey falls to Augsburg in NCAA first round

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS - Marian University men's hockey (20-8-1, 12-6-0 NCHA) rallied after trailing for most of the game but saw their season come to an end falling to Augsburg by a 3-1 final.

The Auggies came out fast as they outshot the Sabres by a 10-8 margin in the opening period.  Augsburg would net the first two goals of the game just 40 seconds apart.

From there, however, the Sabres mostly controlled the action as they went on to outshoot Augsburg 25-20 for the remainder of the game.  Marian especially had things rolling in the third period where they had 13 shots to Augsburg's nine.

Sophomore Conner Blanck was able to cut into the Augsburg lead with the first ever NCAA Tournament goal in program history at the 16:15 mark.  Marian netted the goal with a two-man advantage and empty net on the other side of the ice with junior Jake Howie assisted the goal.

Marian continued to pressure and create scoring chances in the final minutes but an empty net goal with only 33 seconds remaining sealed the win for Augsburg.
