RIPON, Wis. - Marian University women's volleyball (1-2, 0-0 NACC) defeated Finlandia in a five-set thriller before falling to Wheaton and Ripon at the Ripon Quadrangular.

The Sabres would drop the first set against the Lions by a 25-23 tally before Marian came away with a back-and-forth 33-31 set two victory to even the sets.  The third set was also a barn burner with the Lions edging out a 26-24 win.  Needing a win in the fourth, the Sabres were able to rally and force a fifth set with a 25-21 win.  The Sabres then were able to complete the come from behind victory with a 15-13 win in the fifth set.

Sophomore Jamie Schrauth and senior Alexandra Meidl each had double-digit kills in the victory with Schrauth recording 16 kills and Meidl adding 14 kills to go with a .387 hitting percentage.  The Sabre middles also had a busy day with sophomore Jenna Moehn recording seven kills with a .500 hitting percentage and junior Kaitlyn Kelley chipping in six kills.  Moehn and Kelley also accounted for 12.0 of the 19 Sabre blocks with Moehn recording eight solo blocks and Kelley rejecting a pair of attacks by herself.

From the back row, junior Jenna Skroski led the way with 19 digs and freshman Brooklyn Taylor digging up 12 Lion attacks in her first collegiate match.  Junior Sara Komosa added 10 digs as well.  Junior Amber Yahr closed the match with 44 assists, eight digs, and two block assists in the win.

The following two matches saw the Sabres struggle, however, as the Thunder and Red Hawks earned straight-set victories.  The set scores for the Wheaton match would finish at 28-26, 25-19, and 25-16, while the Red Hawks won behind set scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-10.

Following the conclusion of the quadrangular, Schrauth was selected as the Marian representative for the All-Tournament team after leading the Sabre offense in all three matches.

Marian will next host Lawrence Wednesday, Sept. 5 for a 7 p.m. first serve from Sadoff Gym.
