FOND DU LAC - After trailing most of the game, Marian University men's hockey (8-6-3, 6-3-1 NCHA) was able to score a late third-period goal to salvage a 2-2 tie against Finlandia.

The Lions would score the only goal of the opening period despite the Sabres outshooting Finlandia by a 12-6 margin.  Finlandia managed to put the Sabres in a two-goal deficit at the 12:12 mark of the second period before junior Clay Cross lit the lamp for the fifth time with the Sabres on the power play.  The Cross goal came just 1:40 following the second Finlandia goal and was assisted by fellow junior Conner Blanck.

The Sabres continued to pressure Finlandia and outshot the Lions 20-10 in the second period.

Marian was then able to tie the game with only three minutes remaining when freshman Blaine Caton lit the lamp for the second time this season with assists to Cross and fellow freshman Troy Ring.  The goal forced overtime where Marian would send eight shots on goal but couldn't find a game-winner leading to the tie.

The Sabres finished with a 44-27 advantage in shots with junior Hunter Vorva making 25 saves including 11 saves between a scoreless third period and overtime. 

The Marian penalty kill held the Lions scoreless on five opportunities, while the Sabre power play went 1-6 (.167) in the game.

Marian hits the road for Aurora Thursday, January 17 for a 5 p.m. puck drop in NCHA action.
