Late push falls short for Sabre women's hockey

ASHLAND, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (3-10-3, 2-5-2 NCHA) dropped the opener of their series against Northland by a 3-1 final.

The LumberJills opened the scoring late in the second period after neither team lit the lamp after the opening period.  Northland then added on with a power play goal 7:22 into the third period, the eventual game-winner, and took a 3-0 lead with just over five minutes left to play.

With an empty-net in the Sabre defensive zone, senior Alexis Peterson netted her first goal of the season with an assist from fellow senior Hailey Miller.

The Sabres finished with a 25-22 advantage in shots including a third period that saw Marian outshoot Northland 10-3.  Senior Lindsey Strainis made 19 saves in goal for the Sabres, while sophomore Morgan Bolin had a game-high five shots on goal.

The Sabres close out their series against the LumberJills tomorrow, Saturday, January 19, with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m.
