DE PERE, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (4-11-3, 3-6-2 NCHA) scored a season-high eight goals to defeat St. Norbert 8-4 in the series opener.

The Sabres and Green Knights traded goals in the opening period leading to a 2-2 tie at the first intermission.  St. Norbert opened the scoring with sophomore Jamie Henrickson scoring 29-seconds later with an assist to senior Alexis Peterson.  SNC was able to retake the lead late in the period but a power play goal from junior Hannah Koniar at the 17:47 mark equalized the score, assist to fellow junior Ally Fox.

The trend continued in the second period as three goals were scored in the first 2:48.  The Green Knights retook the lead at the 1:39 before junior Morgan Bolin lit the lamp with an assist to Peterson just 28 seconds later.  SNC once again took the lead 41 seconds after the Bolin goal before Marian rattled off five unanswered goals.

Sophomore Katie Meierotto scored an unassisted goal at the 11:33 mark to tie the game before senior Sheila Blower scored with 1:01 left in the period, assists to Fox and Koniar, to give the Sabres their first lead.

Senior Natalie West cushioned the lead at the 6:44 mark of the third period with assists to freshman Emma Serres and Blower.  The Sabre penalty kill scored the final two goals of the game with Bolin and Fox scoring short-handed to seal the victory.

The Green Knights finished with a 38-27 advantage in shots for the game with senior Lindsey Strainis (3-10-3) making 34 saves to earn the victory in gaol.

The Sabres close out their series with the Green Knights tomorrow, Saturday, January 26, in NCHA action.
