FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's soccer (3-6-1, 0-3-0 NACC) became just the fifth team to score on CUW this season but fell to the Falcons by a 2-1 final.

Both Concordia Wisconsin goals saw the Sabres on the end of some bad luck with the first being an attempted pass-back from the Marian defense that found the back of the Sabre goal in the 34th minute.  The Falcons managed to pad their lead after drawing a foul on the right on the penalty area and scored on the ensuing penalty kick.  The Sabre offense refused to go quietly, however, as Marian converted a quality opportunity in the 65th minute.

A pass from outside the box trickled around and found the feet of senior Chris Nelson on the left side of the goal area, and he was able to just tap it over to fellow senior Kyle Klusendorf who was in the middle of the penalty area for an easy goal.  The tally was the first of the season for Klusendorf, while Nelson earned his first assist of the year on the play.

With the deficit down to one, the Marian defense got tough on the possession offense of CUW and created more quality opportunities but were unable to find the equalizer late.

The Sabres finished with eight shots in the defeat led by freshman Chase Hayden who had three.  Junior Kevin Cervantes (2-4-1) took the tough-luck loss in goal for the Sabres stopping seven shots, his second-highest total of the year.

Marian concludes the week taking on Dominican Saturday, Oct. 5 at noon from Smith Field in NACC action.
