Sabre women's volleyball rallies late but drops four setter to Benedictine

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's volleyball (4-14, 1-5 NACC) got off to a slow start falling to Benedictine in four sets with set scores of 25-13, 25-16, 20-25, and 25-21.

The first pair of sets was all Benedictine as the Sabres couldn't find a rhythm to their offense.  The Benedictine offense was also able to start strong and pulled away from the Sabres in each set.

The Eagles led 16-14 in the third set before freshman Monica Dreifuerst helped charge a nine-point run that gave Marian a seven-point edge.  Dreifuerst had three service aces during the stretch.  Senior Sara Komosa was then able to force a fourth set with a kill her fifth of the set.

The two squads opened the foruth set to a 13-13 draw before Marian scored four-straight points to take the lead.  The Sabres brought their lead out to 19-16 before Benedictine closed out the match with a 9-2 run.

Dreifuerst had another strong performance with her seventh double-double of the season behind 15 kills and 15 digs to go with a .257 hitting percentage.  Komosa also had a strong performance with 14 kills off of a .278 hitting percentage.  Freshman Aspyn Krygiel produced her second-straight double-double with 12 digs and 17 assists, while senior Amber Yarh led Marian with 21 assists.

Marian closes out a six-match homestand hosting Alverno at Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in NACC action.
