FOND DU LAC – Marian University women's basketball (1-3, 1-0 NACC) earned their first victory of the season defeating Concordia Chicago 71-63.

A tight first quarter saw Concordia Chicago score four points in the final minute to take a 16-13 advantage at the first stoppage.  Marian wasted no time in the second quarter to retake the lead going on an 8-2 spurt to open the stanza.  The Sabres led by as much as four on multiple occasions in the quarter with a three-pointer from freshman Madison Holdiman proving to be the difference as Marian led 39-38 at the half.

After CUC took a 44-42 advantage with 5:51 left in the third quarter, the Sabres put together their best run of the game taking a 53-46 lead with an 11-2 run.  Freshman Whittney Jackson capped off the run with a three-pointer.  The Cougars were able to respond, however, cutting the Marian lead down to two heading to the fourth quarter.

The Cougars came out for the fourth quarter with a 9-2 run to take a 60-55 advantage with 7:19 left to play.  The spurt resulted in a Marian timeout that immediately sparked a 16-2 run that gave Marian a 71-62 lead with just 28 seconds left.  The Sabre defense would continue to hold off the Cougars leading to the 71-63 final.

Freshman Claire Levendoski led the Sabres with a team-high 15 points, while senior Morgan Johnson chipped in 12 points and fellow senior Carley Wilson added 10 points off the bench.  Sophomore Paris Harris had a strong stat line posting nine points with just as many rebounds to go with three steals.

Marian next travels to MSOE Tuesday, Nov. 26 for a 7 p.m. tip-off in NACC action.
