Box Score FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's basketball (1-7, 1-3 NACC) dropped their third overtime game of the season falling to Lakeland 89-87.
After a slow start from the Sabres, Marian used a 13-2 run to take a 20-13 lead with 10:39 left in the first half. The Muskies rebounded with a strong finish to half using a 15-4 streak to close out the opening stanza to take a 38-35 lead into halftime.
The Sabres opened the second half strong scoring eight of the first 11 points of the half to take a 43-41 advantage with 16:58 left in regulation. The Muskies once again had an answer and pushed their lead out to as large as nine points with 1:47 left before Marian began their comeback. The next 59 seconds saw Marian cut their deficit down to just three with 46 seconds left. Then with two seconds remaining on the clock, Julian Lynch inbounded to junior Logan Hamilton who hit a corner three as the buzzer sounded to send the game into overtime.
Lakeland was able to take the first lead of the extra period leading 87-84 with 3:05 left to play. Marian kept their deficit manageable trailing by just two with 42 ticks left. Marian once again would find themselves with the last possession but were unable to find another magical shot as a last-second attempt fell off the mark.
Marian finished the game going 35-67 (.522) from the field including 10-27 (.370) from beyond the arc. Hamilton paced the Sabres with a team-best 25 points, while junior Justin Wilson finished with a double-double recording 23 points with 10 rebounds.
Marian plays their final home game of the first half hosting Concordia Wisconsin Saturday, Dec. 14 for a 2 p.m. tip.
