FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's basketball (2-18, 2-13 NACC) earned a split in the season series with Rockford after a 77-63 win at home.

Marian jumped out early on the Regents taking a 17-9 lead to open the first quarter, which eventually led to a 19-11 advantage heading into the first break.  The Sabre defense especially had a strong start holding Rockford to only 5-18 (.278) shooting from the field.

The two squads matched each other in the second quarter with each team scoring 17 points to put the halftime tally at 36-28.

The Sabres then had their best offensive quarter of the night in the third opening the stanza with a 9-1 run to go ahead 45-29 with 5:49 left in the quarter.  Marian eventually outscored Rockford 21-12 for the quarter going 8-16 (.500) from the field.

Rockford began to mount a comeback cutting their deficit down to as little as nine with 5:01 left to play but Marian would close out the game with a 10-5 push to put the final at 77-63.

Marian shot a season-high 46.4-percent from the field going 32-69 and outscored Rockford 18-7 in points off turnover.  The Sabres also held an advantage in the paint where they outscored the Regents 42-22.

Two Sabres recorded a double-double led by senior Rachel Serchen who had a game-high 19 points to go with 10 rebounds, while freshman Paris Harris had 10 points with 11 rebounds, all defensive.  Off of the bench, junior Carley Wilson put up a career-high 17 points and freshman Amanda Verheyen added 14 points going 5-9 (.555) from the field.

Marian hits the road for Alverno Tuesday, Feb. 5 for a 7 p.m. tip in NACC action.
