MILWAUKEE - Marian University men's hockey (11-4-1, 7-4-0 NCHA) defeated MSOE 5-2 to open an NCHA home-and-home series.

The Sabres started strong scoring just 56 seconds in when sophomore Parker Colley scored his sixth of the season with an assist to fellow sophomore Gianni Vitali.  This proved to be the only goal of the period with Marian taking an early 11-8 edge in shots.

Marian struck fast once again in the second period with senior Brett Radford scoring two minutes in with assists to senior Nolan Ross and sophomore Salvatore Scalise.  The goal was his sixth on the season.  MSOE cut the Marian lead in half before three special teams' goals concluded the period. 

Senior Lawson MacDonald scored a short-handed goal with assists to junior Anthony Orubor, his second goal this season, at the 8:06 mark. MSOE scored on a different power play opportunity shortly after.  Ross then extended the Sabre lead back out to two heading to the third period with an unassisted power-play goal at the 15:26 mark.

The final period saw both goaltenders put in work with an empty-net goal from sophomore Troy Ring, his second tally of the season, proving to be the lone score to set the final at 5-2.

Marian held a slight 37-36 advantage in shots for the game with senior Hunter Vorva (8-3-1) stopping 34 shots for the win, his sixth straight game with at least 30 saves.  Vitali led the Marian offense with a team-high six shots.

The Sabre penalty kill unit held MSOE scoreless on five power plays, while the Marian power play scored once on six chances.

Marian concludes their series with MSOE tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 18, at home with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
