Marian softball closes out spring break trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

LEESBURG/KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Marian University softball (8-6, 0-0 NACC) defeated D'Youville 5-0 and North Park 10-2 in five innings before falling SUNY Geneseo 2-1 in eight innings and 5-1 in a doubleheader to close out their spring break trip.

The Sabres scored all five of their runs in the first four innings against D'Youville but another dominant pitching performance stole the spotlight.  A solo home run from junior Peyton Loesch opened the scoring in the first before the Sabres took advantage of an error in the second to go ahead 2-0.  Junior Katy Croeker brought in a run in the third and Loesch brought in a pair with a single in the fourth to close out the scoring.

Senior Paige Rauhut (5-3) tossed her second shutout of the trip allowing only four hits with just as many strikeouts.  The offense was paced by Loesch who had three base knocks.

Marian once again struck first against North Park with Loesch and senior Taylor Lauscher driving in runs to put Marian ahead 2-0 after one.  North Park answered with a pair in the bottom of the second but Marian immediately retook the lead for good with a four-run third.  Loesch and freshman Julia Corona each brought in a run during the inning with Lauscher capping the frame with a pair of runs driven in after a double.

The fourth inning was another good inning as Marian tacked onto their lead with another four runs.  Junior Gianna Esposito opened the scoring for the inning with a single before a Loesch double scored a pair.  Corona then doubled to bring in Loesch to set the final at 10-2.

Freshman Emalee Depa (3-1) earned the win in the circle going 4.0 innings only allowing one earned run off of six hits.  The top five hitters in the Marian lineup went 10-for-14 in the victory with Loesch driving in four runs and scoring three times and Lausher driving in three.  Esposito also scored three times after going 2-for-2 with a free pass.

The opener against SUNY Geneseo was all about the pitching as Marian would play their third extra-inning game of the trip but suffer their first extra-innings loss.  Lauscher would drive in freshman Kaley Ludvigsen in the top of the seventh to force extra-innings before Geneseo won with a bases-loaded two-out single.  The second game saw Geneseo take an early lead and eventually defeat Marian 5-1.
