Slow start costly for Sabre women's basketball in 73-56 defeat at Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. - Marian University women's basketball (2-1, 2-1 NACC) suffered their first defeat of the season falling to Edgewood on the road 73-56.

The Eagles came out of the gates shooting and opened with a 21-5 lead.  The Sabres bounced back in the final minutes but Edgewood still found themselves with a 29-14 advantage.  The Sabre defense played much better in the middle two quarters but would still be outscored 14-10 in the second and 15-13 in the third.

Marian was able to put together their strongest quarter of the evening in the fourth where they were able to outscore the Eagles 19-15 to set the final at 73-56.

The Sabre offense hit 11 three-pointers in the defeat but had a tough time in the paint where they were outscored 44-20.

Junior Paris Harris led the way scoring a game-high 21 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of assists.  Sophomore Claire Levendoski added 10 points.

Marian closes out their series at Edgewood tomorrow, Saturday, January 30, for a 5 p.m. tip.
