Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. - Marian University men's hockey (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHA) fell to Concordia College 4-1 to open the season.
The Sabres dominated in the opening period as they were able to outshoot the Cobbers 14-4 for the period. Junior Blake Kleiner scored the first goal of the season with just 1:43 left in the period with assists to senior Parker Colley and sophomore Mason Richey. This proved to be the lone goal through the first two periods of action.
The Cobbers were able to tie the game 8:44 into the third period and took the lead just 1:19 later at 2-1. Concordia then scored a pair of empty-net goals in the final two minutes to set the final at 4-1.
Marian was able to finish with a 30-28 advantage in shots led by senior Nathan Walker who had six shots on goal. Junior Colby Muise (0-1-0) made 24 saves on 26 shots in his first appearance of the season.
Each team was given three man-advantage opportunities but neither side was able to find the back of the net.
Marian closes out the road series tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m.
