Box Score FOND DU LAC - One tough period proved to be costly for Marian University men's hockey (1-3-0, 0-2-0-0 NCHA) as the Sabres were defeated by No. 5 Adrian 5-3.
Special teams played a factor early as the Sabres scored 4:49 into the game with a power-play goal from freshman Jordan Simoneau. Fellow freshman Nick Cherkowski and junior Jack Sampson each assisted the goal. The Bulldogs responded with a power-play goal of their own to send the game into a 1-1 knot at the first break.
The second period was all Bulldogs as Marian was outshot 24-6 in the stanza and Adrian scored four times. The Sabres responded in the third period with freshman Conrad Phillips scoring his first collegiate goal at the 4:11 mark, assists to freshman Jaymes Knee and junior Brady Pupp. Then just 2:23 later sophomore Ty Mosimann lit the lamp with an assist to fellow sophomore Mason Richey.
Junior Colby Muise (1-3-0) made 30 saves in the start with sophomore Aaron Brunn stopping all nine shots he saw in relief of Muise.
Marian hits the road to open their series with CUW Friday, Nov. 19 for a 7 p.m. puck drop in NCHA action.
