Marian women's basketball pulls away from Mount Mary for first win

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's basketball (1-2, 0-0 NACC) defeated Mount Mary 66-49 behind a 39-point second half.

The Sabre offense had a tough time figuring out the zone of Mount Mary in the opening half as the Blue Angels were able to build a 29-27 lead at the break.  Mount Mary pulled their lead out to 33-32 before the Sabres went on a quick 9-3 spurt to go ahead 42-35 with 2:05 left in the third quarter.  The Sabres were able to hold onto this seven-point advantage heading into the final quarter at 45-38.

Marian then had their best quarter of the night scoring 21 points in the final stanza behind 7-16 (.438) shooting from the field with four three-pointers.  The Sabres opened the final quarter with a 7-2 run and for the rest of the game didn't trail by less than double-digit points.  A 9-2 run by Marian to end the game then set the final at 66-49.

Senior Paris Harris finished with a double-double scoring a game-high 27 points to go with 11 rebounds.  Harris shot 10-23 (.435) in the win with seven of her field goals being three-pointers, while on the defensive end she had four steals.  Sophomore Serina Pehowski chipped in seven points and had eight rebounds.

Marian remains at home to host UW-River Falls Tuesday, Nov. 23 for a 7 p.m. tip in non-conference action.
