Marian women's hockey wins defensive battle with St. Kate's

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Marian University women's hockey (2-4-1, 1-2-0-1 NCHA) won their second straight game defeating St. Catherine 1-0.

The Sabres outshot the Wildcats in the opening period 11-9 but neither team found the back of the net.  It then took just 1:58 into the second period for Marian to break the scoreless tie with a power-play goal.  Junior Melodee Eastman was able to light the lamp with an assist to Hailie Hefel.  The defenses continued to dominate with the Sabres sealing the shutout victory behind 18 saves in the final period.

Marian was outshot 40-33 with freshman Jadyn Gorski recording a team-high four shots.  Sophomore Kayla Kolpitcke (2-4-1) stood on her head making 40 stops in the first shutout of her career.

Marian returns home to take on Trine Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in NCHA action.
