Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. - Marian University men's hockey (6-5-2, 1-4-1-0 NCHA) claimed their fourth Superior Showdown Championship with a 3-1 win over No. 10 Aurora.
The Spartans were able to score the lone tally of the opening period finding the back of the net 5:26 into the game. Marian would outshoot Aurora 15-10 in the opening stanza.
A solid second period from the power play unit turned the momentum and gave the Sabres the lead. Senior Nathan Walker lit the lamp 5:26 into the period to tie the game with an extra-man goal, assists to sophomore Dawson Schwengler and senior Parker Colley. Colley then found the back of the net with a power-play goal of his own with 9:36 left in the period to give the Sabres the lead. Sophomore Ty Mosimann and Schwengler each earned assists for what proved to be the game-winner.
A strong defensive period in the third put the game away with sophomore Mason Richey scoring with just 1:27 left to seal the victory. Mosimann and Colley each assisted the final goal of the game.
Colley led the Sabres with seven shots in the victory as part of his three-point game. Junior Colby Muise (5-5-2) had another dominant performance between the pipes making 41 saves.
The Sabres are now 3-1 in championship games at the Superior Showdown.
Marian returns to conference action playing at MSOE Friday, Jan. 7 for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
