Box Score FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's hockey (2-5-2, 1-3-0-2 NCHA) fell to Trine by a 4-1 final to close out an NCHA series.
The opening period saw Trine score the only goal with the Thunder then going ahead 2-0 just 57 seconds into the second period. Sophomore Aeryn Olson cut the Marian deficit back down to one just 1:50 later with the first goal of her career. Trine responded, however, pushing their lead to multiple goals with 9:39 left in the period taking a 3-1 advantage into the final period. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final period until an empty-net goal from Trine sealed the game with 2:11 left to play.
Marian finished with a 33-32 advantage in shots but were held scoreless on five power plays. Junior Rheanne Peigan led the Marian offense with six shots, while sophomore Kayla Kolpitcke (2-5-2) made 28 saves and held the Thunder scoreless on three power-play chances.
Marian travels to Trine for a non-conference series opening Friday, December 10 for a 6 p.m. puck drop.
