Early lead not enough as Sabre men's hockey drops opener at Adrian 8-4

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. - Marian University men's hockey (3-2-0, 2-0-0 NCHA) scored the first three goals of the game but dropped the opener of a road series at Adrian by an 8-4 final.

A power-play tally opened the scoring for the evening when sophomore Ty Enns scored his fourth goal of the season with assists from freshman Mason Richey and junior Troy Ring at the 12:45 mark.  The Sabres were able to extend their lead with just 9.1 seconds on the clock when junior Nathan Walker scored his first goal of the season, assists to Enns and Richey.

The Sabres then went up at the 3:03 mark of the second period with a goal from sophomore Jack Sampson, his second of the season, with an assist to freshman Tanner Versluis who was playing in his first collegiate game.  Adrian then battled back scoring five unanswered goals, two on the power play, in the final 14 minutes of the period.

Marian was able to bounce back with a goal midway through the third period when freshman Mateo Albinati scored his second of the season.  Enns and junior Parker Colley each scored the goal which came on the power play.  The Bulldogs responded, however, scoring three more times, twice on an empty Marian net, to put the final at 8-4.

The Sabres outshot the Bulldogs in the opening period but Adrian finished the game with a 42-29 edge.  Sophomore Colby Muise made 26 saves in 35 minutes of action, while freshman Aaron Brunn (1-1-0) took the loss-making eight saves in just under 23 minutes of time in net.

Enns finished with three points, a season-high, marking his third multi-point game of the season, while Richey posted the first multi-point game of his collegiate career in the defeat.

Marian closes out their series with Adrian tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 13, for a 2:05 p.m. (CDT) start.
