Box Score FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's volleyball (2-0, 1-0 NACC) dominated from start to finish in a 25-12, 25-19, and 25-15 sweep of Lakeland.
The Sabres were able to take an early 6-5 lead to open the first set before using a 10-2 run to take a commanding 16-7 advantage. The Sabres never let the Muskies back into the set using another 9-3 spurt to close out the set. Marian held the Muskies to a -.160 hitting percentage in the set with six different Sabres recording a kill offensively.
Marian was able to use the momentum from their strong finish to jump all over Lakeland to open the second. The Sabres jumped out to a 10-3 lead but the Muskies were able to battle back and bring their deficit down to just two at 11-9. The Sabres would later score six unanswered points to go up 19-11 and never looked back to take a 2-0 lead. Junior Jacob Jurney led the way for Marian in the set with five kills, while fellow junior Liam Skinner had a hand in three of the four Marian blocks in the set.
It was another 10-3 start for the Sabres in the third set but this time Marian would not allow Lakeland back into it. The Sabres led by as much as 11 in the set as they were able to cruise to the sweep in their NACC opener. Four different Sabres recorded multiple kills in the final set.
Jurney led the Marian offense with eight kills, but the offense was balanced as four different Sabres recorded at least five kills. Skinner added six kills hitting .545 for the match and had four total blocks, two solo. Junior Carzell Combs led the back row with a game-high 12 digs, while junior Zach Zelenik assisted 24 of the 30 Marian kills and had nine digs.
Marian remains at home to take on Concordia Wisconsin Tuesday, Feb. 23 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
