Tough fourth quarter leads to 67-40 loss for Sabre women's basketball.

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's basketball (2-3, 2-3 NACC) had a tough fourth quarter as the Sabres fell to Wisconsin Lutheran 67-40 to open a NACC series.

It was a slow start offensively for both squads as the Warriors held an 8-6 lead with 3:58 left in the quarter.  From there, the Warriors were able to close out the final minutes of the opening quarter with siz unanswered to go ahead 14-6 at the first break.  Wisconsin Lutheran was able to build their lead to as large as 16 in the second quarter but the Sabres were able to cut into that deficit and trailed just 30-18 at the half.

The Sabres socred five of the first eight points to open the second half and trailed by just 10 at 33-23 with 8:18 on the clock.  The Warriors responded with six unanswered points but Marian once again was able to limit the damage trailing justs 45-32 heading into the final quarter.

The final stanza was all WLC as the Warriors would outscore the Sabres 22-8 in the quarter to set the final at 67-40.

Freshman Serina Pehowski had a dominating performance despite the loss grabbing a game-high 16 boards, six offensive rebounds all in the second half, with a game-high 18 points for the second double-double of her career.

Marian hosts Wisconsin Lutheran tomorrow, Saturday, February 6, at 5 p.m. to close out the series.
