Marian men's hockey wins NCHA Harris Cup for first time since 2002

Box Score

FOND DU LAC - The NCHA Harris Cup will call Fond du Lac home after Marian University men's hockey (12-7-0, 5-3-0 NCHA) defeated MSOE 4-1 to secure a sweep in the championship.

The game opened as a defensive battle with neither team finding the back of the net in the first period.  The Sabres would hold a 17-9 advantage in shots, however.  Marian then broke through first with a 5-on-3 power-play goal from sophomore Ty Enns at the 8:46 mark of the second.  Enns was assisted by freshman Mateo Albinati and junior Nathan Walker.  Enns then tallied his second goal of the game, 13th of the season, at the 14:31 mark with an assist to junior Salvatore Scalise.

MSOE was able to bounce back scoring at the 7:48 mark of the third to make it a 2-1 game, but junior Blaine Caton was able to give the Sabres some breathing room.  Caton was able to score at the 12:04 mark with assists to Enns and junior Troy Ring.  An empty-net goal from junior Gianni Vitali, his third of the season, with just under two minutes left then sealed the win.

Marian outshot the Raiders 44-31, 14-6 in the final period, and held MSOE scoreless on four power play opportunities.  Sophomore Colby Muise (11-4-0) made 30 saves on the night and earned the most valuable player award for the tournament.  Also earning all-tournament recognition was Enns, junior Parker Colley, Vitali, and Walker.

Marian has won the NCHA Harris Cup three times in program history now with this being the first time since 2002.
