Box Score FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's soccer (2-2-0, 2-2-0 NACC) defeated Edgewood 3-0 to close out a four-game homestand to open the season.
Marian was able to dominate in the opening half outshooting Edgewood 14-1 through 45 minutes. Sophomore Max Kauffman was able to get the Sabres on the board when he headed in a free kick from senior Cade Klusendorf from the midfield stripe. The Sabres then struck quickly for what proved to be the final goals of the game with freshman Drew Cowden scoring twice.
Cowden first beat the keeper on the near post from the left side of the box at the 62:49 mark, assist to sophomore Chase Hayden. He then scored 56 seconds later going far post from nearly the same spot with an assist to freshman Giuliano Corazzina.
The Sabres finished with an 18-10 advantage in shots with Corazzina and Kauffman each recording four shots in the win. Senior Kevin Cervantes (2-1-0) made three saves in 76:36 of action to earn the win, while fellow senior Cory Koehler stopped the only shot he faced in the final 13:24 of action.
Marian travels to Wisconsin Lutheran Wednesday, March 31 for a 6:30 p.m. kick-off looking for a sweep in the season series.
