Box Score 2 MADISON, Wis. - Marian University softball (9-7, 0-0 NACC) earned a split against Edgewood defeating the Eagles 4-0 after falling in game one 10-2 in six innings.
The Sabres put up two runs in the opening frame of the doubleheader when seniors Peyton Loesch and Katy Croeker each drove in runs, but it would be all Marian was able to manage. The Eagles were able to end game one early after scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 10-2 win.
Croeker finished the game going 2-for-3 with one driven in.
The second game of the doubleheader saw a lot of defense and dominant pitching, and it was one big inning for the Sabres that proved to be the difference. Marian was able to get all four of their runs in the fourth inning. The first two runs came on productive outs before senior Alexa Rodriguez hit her sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot, to put Marian ahead 4-0.
Rodriguez and fellow senior Jade Mardjetko each had multi-hit games in the win. Sophomore Emalee Depa (4-0) was the story of the game, however, tossing the first shutout of her career allowing just four hits and striking out seven hitters.
Marian returns home to take on Dominican Thursday, April 1 for a 1 p.m. twin bill.
