Box Score FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's hockey (7-7-0, 5-3-0 NCHA) clinched the No. 2 seed in the North division for the NCHA Harris Cup playoffs after a 3-0 win over CUW.
The Sabres came out firing in the first two periods outshooting the Falcons 13-5 in the first period and 18-4 in the second. Freshman Mason Richey opened the scoring just 1:58 into the game with assists to junior Parker Colley and freshman Bronson Adams. Fellow freshman Anthony Bilka then netted his third goal of the season at the 12:53 mark of the second period to put the Sabres ahead 2-0. Senior Troy Ring and freshman Tanner Versluis each earned an assist on the play.
Both offenses came out shooting with CUW outshooting Marian 18-15 for the period but the Sabres were able to secure their first shutout of the season. Richey added his second goal of the game, third of the season, at the 4:26 mark of the third period and was assisted by Colley and junior Nathan Walker.
The Sabres finished with a 46-27 advantage in shots with sophomore Colby Muise (6-4-0) stopping all 27 shots he faced for the second shutout of his career. The multi-goal performance from Richey was the first of his career.
Marian will host the opening round Wednesday, March 10 for a 5 p.m. puck drop with their opponent to be determined.
