Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC - Marian University softball (12-8, 1-1 NACC) defeated Lakeland 4-0 but could only manage a split falling in game two 4-1.
The Sabres wasted no time opening the scoring for the game with sophomore Kaley Ludvigsen driving in senior Alexa Rodriguez just three pitches into the game. A double from fellow sophomore Andrea Miller then extended the Marian lead in the second to 2-0. Rodriguez then put an exclamation point on the game one victory with her seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth.
Rodriguez and fellow senior Jade Mardjetko each scored twice and had a pair of hits. Senior Paige Rauhut (5-4) provided the highlight of the game, however, tossing her second-straight shutout and striking out a season-high 11 hitters while only allowing two hits.
The Sabre bats then went quiet in game two as Marian only managed two hits through the first six innings. Lakeland scored in their first at bat and added on in the fifth. The Muskies were able to take a 4-0 lead in the seventh with a pair of runs.
After struggling through six innings, the Marian offense led the bottom of the seventh with three singles to bring the tying run to the plate. The Sabres would only manage to push across one run, however, with sophomore Izzy Gonzalez driving in a run.
Sophomore Emalee Depa (5-1) continued to pitch well going 6.1 innings allowing just seven hits with four strikeouts. Rodriguez had the lone multi-hit game of the second contest going 2-for-2 with a walk.
Marian closes out their NACC series against Lakeland Monday, April 5 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
