Second half stumble too much for Sabre women's soccer at SNC

DE PERE, Wis - Marian University women's soccer (2-4-1, 2-1-0 NACC) scored the first goal of the game but fell to St. Norbert by a 4-1 final.

The Sabres opened the scoring after a quiet first 30 minutes when junior Ashley Welk scored her third goal of the season at the 30:22 mark with an assist from senior Charity Hertel.  The Green Knights were able to answer with just four minutes remaining in the half to send the game to a 1-1 tie at the break.

St. Norbert was then able to control most of the second half scoring the game-winner in the 54th minute.  The Green Knights then scored a pair of goals separated by just 54 seconds to set the final at 4-1.

Junior Amy Birner (2-3-1) made seven saves in the first half and another eight in the second for her first game with double-digit saves this season.  Welk was the lone Sabre with multiple shots recording three on the night.

Marian returns home to host Benedictine Saturday, Sept. 25 for a noon kick-off.
