Box Score MILWAUKEE - One bad quarter proved to be the difference as Marian University women's basketball (4-11, 2-7 NACC) as No. 13/21 Wisconsin Lutheran defeated the Sabres 63-46.
Marian trailed just 11-10 with 2:51 left in the opening quarter before the Warriors scored five unanswered points to take a 16-10 advantage. The Sabres were able to battle back from a nine-point deficit in the second quarter to trail 26-23 with 1:29 until halftime. WLC once again had a strong finish to the quarter and were able to take a 29-23 advantage into the break.
The third quarter was all WLC as a stretch of nine unanswered points from the Warriors helped them build a 13-point lead. The Warriors continued to push and finished the third quarter ahead 48-29. Marian bounced back in the final stanza outscoring the Warriors 17-15 in the fourth quarter but were unable to rally from their third quarter deficit.
Freshman Lexi Brakebush came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points, while junior Brianna Martin had seven rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals.
Marian returns home to host Illinois Tech Saturday, Jan. 22 for a 2 p.m. tip.
