RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Marian University men's basketball (11-6, 7-5 NACC) defeated Dominican 73-71 to earn a sweep in the season series.

The Sabres were able to get out to a fast start once again jumping ahead 11-5.  An 8-0 run shortly after allowed Marian to build their advantage out to 23-11 with 10:13 left until halftime.  The Stars then put together their first run of the game using an 11-4 spurt to trail just 27-22 with 4:42 until the break.  This Marian lead would hold as the Sabres were able to head in to the locker room leading 35-29.

The two squads then went blow for blow in the second half with neither team managing a lead larger than eight points.  The Stars were able to erase their halftime deficit knotting the score at 56-56 with 7:26 left in regulation.  Dominican would take the lead shortly after at 59-58 with the advantage serving as the last time the Stars were ahead. 

The two squads entered the final minute tied at 69 only to have a layup from junior Tyler Gouin and pair of Dominican free throws put the game tied at 71-71 with 10 seconds left.  A dribble drive down the right side of the lane from Gouin then allowed him to float a shot up and in with just 0.9 seconds left to clinch the Sabre victory.

Marian was able to dominate in the post as the Sabres finished with a 42-22 edge for points in the paint.  Gouin paced the Sabres scoring 21 points off 9-of-17 (.529) shooting along with four steals.  Senior David Britton filled up the stat sheet scoring 17 points with eight rebounds and six assists, while fellow senior Scott Paulus cleaned up the glass with 11 boards.  Sophomore Delvin Barnstable chipped in 19 points.

Marian travels to Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday, February 1 for a 7 p.m. tip in NACC action.
